Citizens: Take Back Your State Rights

During a recent discussion with friends I said if I was the governor, for starters, I would refuse any federal educational funding so we are not obliged to continue the illusion that with all the federal interventionist strings attached to the money, we are educating our Wisconsin students, especially in our larger school districts; specifically Milwaukee.

We feed them, council them, hand out condoms, bus them, have class after class on pressing social issues such as having two mothers or fathers, make them watch algores mythical movie that has made him a millionaire at the very least, but do not teach them basic educational skills.

What our schools help perpetrate is generational welfare.

The school districts continue whining about the lack of money for these students, schools threaten to close down popular programs and the teachers prod their students to whine to their parents about how desperate the situation is so be sure to vote yes for never ending, never enough tax hikes.

If throwing massive amounts of money at Milwaukee schools actually helped, they would not have a failed school system. They would have graduates who spoke understandable English (this includes American born children) and were qualified to go to college, a tech school or into some sort of vocational training program or apprenticeship.

The fact that the teachers union, the regressive school board and regressive state assembly have no creative ideas and continue using their tired no money ploy is reason enough to stop taking federal money that allows the tail (unions) to keep wagging the dog.

Someone mentioned the unions would never go for not accepting federal money to which I answered, “Screw them.”

Refusing federal money would also mean we would not send money to them to pay for the bloated, ineffective and inefficient Department of Education.

Without the feds calling the shots we could expand innovative and proven effective programs such as charter schools and home schooling. We might even allow parents who (gasp) educate their own children keep some of their tax money they still must pay to schools even though their children do not attend them.

Without the insidious teachers union making sure they are well compensated and job protected, including the bad teachers and the sexual predator teachers, our state could once again take control of its own destiny instead of whatever the party in power in DC determines what is good for us.

Granted, we need a good state government to have good schools, but without outside scapegoats people might actually start taking the responsibility entrusted to them seriously.

It is time citizens demand their state take back the rights that they have ceded to the feds. Stop taking the money (that we send them in the first place and depending on the state, get less back) and start taking responsibility for our own.

As an extra bonus, the federal government will not have the money to waste on themselves and their special friends. It is past time for grownups to take control and it is obvious we do not have many grownups in government who give a flying fig about the people they misrepresent. It is up to the citizens who pay the bills to demand their voices be heard.
